When I first read those words I shivered, they struck fear into my heart. They are the tagline for one of the toughest triathlons in the world, Norseman, and standing in the low-light of dawn on the deck of a ferry watching an endless stream of triathletes leap into the cold, inky waters of a Norwegian Fjord they played on my mind.

If you’re going to get through the world’s most extreme triathlon, you have to be prepared for 3.8km of swimming, 180km cycling and a marathon – but before that, you have to plunge four meters into the darkness.

Without that first step, there is nothing.

Last year we hosted a parallel Norseman race on Zwift on our race day. This year it will be a full week.
