The Longest Wait is Almost Over. - Norseman

The Longest Wait is Almost Over.

For some, the longest Norseman wait now finally has an end date, but others will have to wait a little longer.

Published: 13.Oct.2021

First, a little background.

Norseman is a race with a sprawling organization; a one-person administration employed part-time year-round, the vast majority of whom are volunteers who make the day and other activities a resounding success.

The one thing we have in common is that we all report to Mother Nature. She’s the boss, and what she says goes.

The last couple of years, she has placed great demands on the Norseman organization and the athletes in the shape of the COVID-19 pandemic, and we have all responded accordingly.

We have done our best to keep the Norseman fires burning with flexibility, creativity, and compassion, but there will always be some disappointment.

Now, there is light at the end of the tunnel. The longest wait for some is about to end – those who won a place in the November 2019 draw will make up most of the start field for the 2022 event. Thus bringing to an end a wait of almost three years to experience this unique challenge of body soul when they hit the fjord in the early hours of August 6. 2022.

We understand that many more of you were looking forward to being part of the draw this year and perhaps winning a coveted place in the race. Still, we would ask you to display the same compassion and patience that have helped us navigate the pandemic so far for just a little bit longer.

Next year, Mother Nature willing, we will be back to normal.

290 athletes will make the jump from the ferry, 160 will leave Gaustatoppen with a black t-shirt, and all will depart from Gausta as a Norseman after an unforgettable experience.

There will be no further draw for Norseman 2022. Next fall, we will resume in this new normal, with a new draw and hopefully a return to our old way of organizing the race.

In addition, 2023 will mark the 20th edition of the Norseman Xtreme Triathlon. We are already working hard on finding good ways to mark that with an epic celebration.

What will not change is our commitment to staging the most exciting race experience we possibly can and doing things in the fairest, safest way possible.

We look forward to greeting those who have waited so long for their chance to race come August. And we cant wait to host the draw for 2023 next fall for those of you who won’t have an opportunity to join us in 2022.

One thing we’re sure of is that being part of the Norseman, whenever and however in life you have the opportunity, is always worth the wait.

Sooner or later, we’ll see you all in Eidfjord.
